Tradisjonell rigging

Restoration and maintenance of traditional ships and square riggers.

We restore and maintain traditional ships — from sloops and gaff schooners to large square riggers — using the materials and methods the vessels were originally built for. The result is a rig that is historically faithful, beautiful and fully seaworthy.

Traditional deck rigging work

What’s included

  • Hemp and natural-fibre rope, hand-spliced and served
  • Deadeyes, blocks, lanyards and traditional fittings
  • Standing and running rigging for gaff and square rig
  • Restoration of masts, yards and spars
  • Historically accurate rigging plans

Materials & craft

We work in hemp, manila and modern natural-fibre ropes, spliced and served in the traditional way. Where a vessel needs them, we make and fit deadeyes, blocks and bronze fittings to match the period and character of the ship — so the rig looks right and lasts.

Traditional blocks

Our process

Every project starts with a survey of the existing rig and an agreed rigging plan. We fabricate ashore where possible, then step and tune the rig on board, documenting the work as we go.

Heritage in safe hands

We have rigged traditional vessels including the full-rigged ship Sørlandet, the brig schooner Greif and the schooners Solrik, Hildur and Opal.
